Deep Medical’s AI personalisation with Webex Connect enables healthcare providers to further reduce the cost of missed appointments and attendance

LONDON, UK – March 11, 2024 – Deep Medical, an AI-powered digital health company, today announced its partnership with Webex by Cisco, a leading provider of collaboration technologies powering hybrid work and customer experience, to help patients get a more connected experience when accessing healthcare providers.

Deep Medical’s AI personalisation with Webex Connect enables healthcare providers to further reduce the cost of missed appointments and attendance

Dr. Benyamin Deldar, former NHS doctor and Founder of Deep Medical, collaborated with leading data scientist, David Hanbury, to help tackle the backlog of millions of people each year on waiting lists for a variety of medical appointments. By reducing the number of missed appointments, clinics can better plan the appointments that are attended, thus cutting down on the £1.5 billion lost in missed appointments each year in the UK, and $150 billion in the US.

“As a former NHS Doctor, I’ve witnessed first-hand the challenges patients face in accessing timely healthcare,” says Dr. Benyamin Deldar. “The partnership with Webex by Cisco represents a pivotal moment in our mission to improve patient care. We’re working alongside global healthcare organisations, such as the NHS, to help tackle the backlog by efficiently communicating with patients and accessing everyone’s individual needs.”

Deep Medical’s pioneering AI capability, which uses AI to foresee when healthcare patients might skip appointments, and Webex’s leading CPaaS platform, Webex Connect, offers healthcare providers the ability to deliver more tailored patient journeys and increased personalisation using best in class AI technology. The AI-powered technology allows clinicians to create bespoke communication channels and pathways with their patients to help ensure that appointments can be met and can adapt for those who are visually impaired or have language barriers. By observing how patients interact with messages and their preferred platforms such as WhatsApp, email, or calls, Deep Medical provides the analytics and insights to personalise communication journeys via platforms such as Webex Connect, without accessing medical records. This approach aims to fit healthcare to patient lifestyles, decrease health inequality, and reduce costs related to missed appointments.

Deep Medical has completed a successful pilot for the NHS in the UK and is now a Cisco Developer Partner. The effectiveness of Deep Medical’s technology was demonstrated in a trial at one of the UK’s biggest Health Trusts and showed potential NHS savings of millions of pounds and thousands of lives per year. During the trial, Deep Medical’s software decreased missed appointments by 30%, identifying a patient’s mobility or socioeconomic factors as a potential reason for nonattendance. By understanding these factors, clinics can better plan the 70% of appointments that are attended, potentially saving £30 for every £1 invested if implemented nationwide.

Deep Medical also plans to apply its technology beyond healthcare to sectors like travel and hospitality, which could benefit from predicting no-shows.

From March 11-15, Deep Medical and Webex by Cisco will attend the HIMSS conference in Orlando, Florida, where Dr. Benyamin Deldar from Deep Medical will speak on a customer panel.

About Deep Medical

Missed appointments cost lives. Deep Medical builds AI to predict missed appointments and short notice cancellations to optimise clinical time and improve patient outcomes. Managing clinic capacity is one of the biggest challenges for outpatient clinics. No shows and short notice cancellations waste clinical time, inflate healthcare costs and cause workforce frustration.

No shows are more than simple forgetfulness. Patients can be grappling with work and caring responsibilities and may find it difficult to travel to the hospital at a specific time. Patients from minority and marginalized communities are disproportionately affected in this way. Deep Medical’s primary product, DM Schedules uses AI to dynamically manage clinic capacity, so the clinical workforce is perfectly aligned with patient demand.

Patients are communicated with personalised AI driven channels and communications to ensure they are given the best chance to attend, cancel or reschedule. This AI then powers dynamic clinic capacity management meaning consistency in weekly patient numbers. So, no more capacity concern; just a steady stream of patients and an efficiently run clinic.
